Today’s public and nonprofit sectors need leaders who are ready to innovate, address challenges, and create meaningful change. To be effective, you must be skilled in both policy analysis and managerial know-how.

The Master in Public Administration (MPA) from Northeastern University is practice-oriented, research-based program. You’ll focus on real issues facing leaders in your area of concentration, while integrating theoretical foundations with practical skills.

The program offers you the unique opportunity to:

  • Interact with faculty practitioners and industry experts who are driving public policy, like Michael Dukakis, former governor of Massachusetts and the 1988 Democratic nominee for president of the United States.
  • Acquire hands-on experience through capstone projects, on-campus research labs and centers, and real-world work opportunities. For example, students had the opportunity to work in a group to create an innovative development proposal addressing the needs of a local economic development agency. Their proposal scored second place at the 16th Annual Affordable Housing Development Competition.
  • Connect with a global network of alumni, employers, and experts in your area of focus through receptions and career panels.
  • Choose full- or part-time study in traditional or hybrid formats, or 100% online.
  • Add a graduate certificate to your resumé at no additional cost, in one of five focus areas: Nonprofit Sector, Philanthropy and Social Change, Public Policy Analysis, Data Analytics, Urban Analytics, and Urban Studies.

The MPA Program at Northeastern University is accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration, the membership association of graduate programs in public administration, public policy and public affairs.
